How to fix WordPress automatic upgrades and plugin installs on Nginx

Estimated 1 min read

If you happen to have a local development environment, and you so happen to be using Nginx on it, then chances are you’ve run into the issue where you needed to update WordPress or a plugin within your installation and end up with it asking you for FTP login credentials, or it gives you the error of Failed to connect to FTP Server localhost:21, either way it happens to be down right annoying.

So here is a little trick I learned that solves this issue. In Terminal change directories (cd) to the folder above where you WordPress site is and then type sudo chown -R _www “the folder where your wp site is”, after you enter your password proceed to updating your plugins/WordPress installation with ease.

Hope this helps!
